My story:

This handsome boy is looking for a special home. He has tested positive for feline leukemia, or FeLV.

Feline Leukemia Virus can be spread by casual contact- sharing water bowls, grooming each other, and just generally being in close proximity.  At ARC, all of our cats are tested for FeLV and those with the virus live in a special house dedicated just for them.  Cats with this virus do unfortunately have a significantly shorter lifespan, and are susceptible to other illnesses.  As such, they do require more frequent veterinary visits.  Since this virus is easily spread, it is generally not recommended to bring a cat with this virus into a home with cats who do not have the virus.  We do consider these cats to be adoptable, but they have special needs that warrant extra consideration.  They would be best as an only cat, or with another cat that also has the virus. Potential adopters would need to be prepared for additional veterinary care, and understand that they have a significantly decreased lifespan.  If you would like to help a cat with FELV, but cannot adopt at this time, please consider becoming a sponsor

Pooh is affectionate and playful, and would love the chance to live his life outside of the shelter. Won’t you consider being that special someone to him?

My ideal home:
